• Set a good example. This can be one of the most difficult ways to teach your kid responsibility (“Do as I say, not as I do.”), but start small. Always hang your coat up when you come home and take your shoes off at the door. If your child sees you doing small things around the house, she’ll be more likely to do them, too!
• Choose age-appropriate tasks. Every child, no matter what age, is capable of handling some sort of task that requires responsibility. A young child can be required to clean her room every day, while an older child can be put in charge of a side dish for dinner a few times each week.
