GHT HISTORY
GHT Insurance Agency, Inc. was opened in July 1999 by Theodore Kuester (Ted), Christopher Ryan Kuester (Ryan) and Theodore Eric Kuester (Eric). Ted was one of the owners of Grinnan, Harris, Tabb & Co., Inc. when it was sold to HRH in 1989, thus the “GHT”. Ted purchased his business back from HRH and it formed the initial basis of this new venture with Ryan and Eric, his sons. In January 2001, Larry Wheeler and R.D. Lee (both agents) brought their "book" of commercial and personal lines business with them and combined with GHT to form GHT South. Their office is in the Southside of Richmond. GHT Insurance acquired The Padgett Agency in 2001, and worked closely with Mary Padgett in servicing those clients.
Grinnan, Harris, Tabb & Co., Inc. was formed in 1965 after the sudden death of Cabell Mayo Tabb who owned Tabb & Co., Inc. St. George Grinnan and Maria Gregory Tabb merged the St. George Grinnan Agency and Tabb & Co. together, bringing in William Lett Harris as a third owner, thus forming Grinnan, Harris, Tabb & Co., Inc. Over time, this agency was bought out by Theodore Kuester, John D. McDaniel and W. Everett Alexander III.
St. George Grinnan Insurance Agency was formed in the 1930’s as an accident & health insurance agency. He also was the sole provider of Tuition Refund Insurance for private schools in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Tabb & Co. has roots back to the civil war. Henry Cabell Tabb was a surgeon for the Confederacy during the Civil War and became Medical Director of Life of Virginia afterwards. He urged his son, Thomas Garnett Tabb to start an agency that sold hospitalization insurance.
Laburnum Insurance Agency w/as purchased by Cabell Mayo Tabb, with the help of his father, Thomas Garnett Tabb, and thus was the basis for Tabb & Co.
